Health Information Technologists are part of a healthcare interdisciplinary team and an integral part of the healthcare profession. As a student in the Health Information Technology program, you will obtain a vast array of knowledge about the information technology field that will prepare you for entry into the workforce. You will be introduced to Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Coding concepts. This will prepare you to work in health care institutions reviewing and analyzing health data and transcribing diagnostic and procedural terms and services into a coded form for analysis and billing. Upon successful completion of this program, you may seek employment as a coder, health information specialist, biller, or a medical record specialist. Additionally, you will be eligible to take the Certified Coding Associate exam through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
