Urara Pierrelouis – ECC Student of the Year
It takes dedication and a strong passion for dentistry, to overcome the obstacles that one Norfolk Dental Assisting student has. A native of Japan, Urara Pierrelouis came to the United States six months before she enrolled into the Dental Assistant Program at Centura College in Norfolk, VA. Her goal was simple, to be able to provide for her three children.
Urara attended every class and always stayed behind to practice skills labs. Undoubtedly attentive, she took lots of notes. This Norfolk dental assisting student not only studied her assignments, but actually translated all of the information from English to Japanese. Her textbook was littered with ‘Post-it-Notes’ that had all the translations. She excelled at her externship site and went on to graduate maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. …Read More Here

When I started school at the Centura College Chesapeake Campus, I came in with the enthusiasm of knowing that I was going to further my education while gaining hands on training to enhance my skills at my job, which is hospice care. Although, I had the personal skills needed to work in hospice, I wanted to be able to embrace the total patient care aspect and needed to have the education to do so.
My teachers were always available and willing to sit and talk with me whether I was having trouble in class or just had a patient on my mind.
