VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (June 8, 2015) – Centura College showed their support during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4 through May 8, by giving Hampton Roads teachers a chance to win $500 in Teacher Appreciation Week Winner Katelyn Huntclassroom funds. On June 1, Katelyn Hunt, a third year kindergarten teacher at Woodstock Elementary in Virginia Beach, received the giant $500 check, presented by Ashley West, the campus director of Centura College Chesapeake, and Millie Davis, the director of education at Centura College Chesapeake, as well as a gift bag featuring a free massage and more.

“The teaching community’s commitment to changing lives is absolutely inspiring! These individuals spend every day shaping our country’s tomorrow and we wanted to help them with that noble mission,” said West.

Centura College accepted entries at each of their Hampton Roads campuses and encouraged teachers from every grade level across the 757 area code to participate in this year’s drawing. To enter, teachers just had to visit a participating campus and fill out a brief entry form with their contact info. The winner was chosen at random.

“I was completely surprised and thrilled in winning the check from Centura College! I recently found out that I will be moving to a new grade level, so this $500 will go a long way in getting my classroom set up as well as keeping up with any supplies that my students need through the year,” said Hunt.

Centura College plans to continue the drawing annually, hoping to see even more teachers in the race for next year’s big check.
